Marley Research and Development

The SPX Research and Development Center in Kansas City, established in 1957 and constructed on the site of a former limestone mine, provides an ideal year-round scientific environment 70 feet below the surface, where experiments are performed under controlled conditions. Above the R&D Center, seven acres provide ample space to conduct prototype testing under ambient conditions, too.

Through a perpetual program of expansion and improvement, the one-of-a-kind SPX R&D Center – often referred to as “The Cave” – has evolved into a world-leading cooling test facility, unique in the industry. The technological advances that continue to be developed here help establish global standards for cooling products and individual components.
